ABOUT TIM

Pain & Mobility Therapist

Helping people move better, feel better and find a way forward.

I’m Tim Young, with more than 25 years’ experience in healthcare, rehabilitation and hands-on therapeutic massage experience.

My approach has been shaped by professional experience, years of working with people in pain and, importantly, my own experience of persistent back pain.

Pain isn’t always as simple as where it hurts

We start by listening. I’ll ask about where you’re feeling it, how long it’s been there, what may have triggered it, what aggravates it and what helps.

I’ll also want to understand your work, exercise, sitting, lifting and daily activities. Sometimes I’ll look at how you move as well.

This helps build a clearer picture of what’s happening and what may be contributing to it.

The goal isn’t simply to work on where it hurts. It’s to understand the bigger picture and help you move more comfortably and confidently.

Areas of particular experience

Neck, shoulders & headaches

An area of particular experience.

I regularly work with people experiencing neck and shoulder tension, stiffness and headaches.

Treatment looks at the wider area including the upper back, shoulders and neck. I work progressively, allowing the tissue to respond rather than forcing through it.

Lower back & hips

Lower back and hip problems can affect almost everything. I get consistently good results in this area.

Treatment focuses on the areas that need attention while considering your activities, movement patterns and daily demands.

The treatment is adapted to how your body responds.

Pain, tension & mobility

Sometimes you know something isn’t right, but you’re not sure why.

Hands-on treatment can help address areas of tension and restriction. Where appropriate, I’ll suggest simple exercises to support your progress between treatments.

A treatment approach that responds to you

Every person and every problem is different.
Here’s how we work together.

1. Listen

We start with what you’re experiencing and what you want help with.

2. Explore

I’ll consider the history and behaviour of your pain, along with your work, exercise and everyday activities.

3. Treat

Hands-on therapy is the foundation. I work through the areas that need attention, adapting to your body’s response.

4. Respond

If movement, mobility, stretching or strengthening work is likely to help, I’ll suggest it. Practical additions when they’re relevant to you.

Treatment should never be something you have to endure

When further assessment is appropriate

I work towards resistance gradually and allow the tissue to respond. If your body is tensing, that’s important information.

If it feels like too much, it is too much.

Your feedback is part of the treatment.

More than 16 years of hands-on therapy, alongside a background in nursing, rehabilitation and yoga.

This gives a broader perspective when working with pain and movement.

Not every problem is suitable for hands-on therapy. If your symptoms suggest that medical or specialist assessment would be more appropriate, I’ll let you know.

Good treatment means knowing when someone needs a different kind of care.

Your first appointment

Your first appointment gives us time to understand what’s going on and begin treatment.

We’ll talk about your symptoms, what may have triggered them, what aggravates or helps them, and how they’re affecting your everyday life.

I’ll use this information to guide treatment and, where appropriate, suggest practical things you can do between appointments.

You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what’s wrong.

That’s what we’ll work through together.

My Approach

Hands-on treatment

Hands-on treatment can be an effective way of reducing discomfort, easing tension and helping you move more freely.

Movement & mobility

Understanding how you move and what affects your symptoms helps us identify what approaches will be most useful for you.

For many people, hands-on treatment is only part of the answer. Building strength and confidence is essential for longer-term progress.

What you can expect

I take time to listen and understand the full picture.

I’m calm, thoughtful and unhurried.

You’ll leave feeling heard, supported and with a clearer idea of what comes next.

Sometimes it’s treatment. Sometimes it’s explanation. Sometimes it’s both.

My goal is meaningful results that help you get back to doing what matters to you.

Why I do this work

I get a kick out of helping people feel better. Seeing someone move more freely, regain confidence or return to activities they thought they might have lost is incredibly rewarding.

There are no guarantees and no single treatment that works for everyone. But with the right support, a practical approach and consistent effort, meaningful progress is often possible.

My goal is simple: to help you understand your body, move with more confidence and find a practical route out of pain and discomfort.
