ABOUT TIM
Pain & Mobility Therapist
Helping people move better, feel better and find a way forward.
I’m Tim Young, with more than 25 years’ experience in healthcare, rehabilitation and hands-on therapeutic massage experience.
My approach has been shaped by professional experience, years of working with people in pain and, importantly, my own experience of persistent back pain.
Pain isn’t always as simple as where it hurts
We start by listening. I’ll ask about where you’re feeling it, how long it’s been there, what may have triggered it, what aggravates it and what helps.
I’ll also want to understand your work, exercise, sitting, lifting and daily activities. Sometimes I’ll look at how you move as well.
This helps build a clearer picture of what’s happening and what may be contributing to it.
The goal isn’t simply to work on where it hurts. It’s to understand the bigger picture and help you move more comfortably and confidently.
Areas of particular experience
Neck, shoulders & headaches
An area of particular experience.
I regularly work with people experiencing neck and shoulder tension, stiffness and headaches.
Treatment looks at the wider area including the upper back, shoulders and neck. I work progressively, allowing the tissue to respond rather than forcing through it.
More about headaches →
Lower back & hips
Lower back and hip problems can affect almost everything. I get consistently good results in this area.
Treatment focuses on the areas that need attention while considering your activities, movement patterns and daily demands.
The treatment is adapted to how your body responds.
Pain, tension & mobility
Sometimes you know something isn’t right, but you’re not sure why.
Hands-on treatment can help address areas of tension and restriction. Where appropriate, I’ll suggest simple exercises to support your progress between treatments.
Then I found myself living with persistent pain
During COVID, I fell out of my usual routine and was spending hours sitting and reading each morning. One day, I stood up from the couch and felt a sudden, severe jolt in my lower back. My back, hips and legs tightened almost immediately.
For several months, the pain was constant and severe. Sitting, driving and sleeping were difficult. Although it eventually eased, it never completely went away. For the next three years, I experienced periods of persistent pain and stiffness.
I tried stretching, yoga and exercises I had used successfully in rehabilitation, but the results were temporary. Eventually, I developed a simple movement sequence based on a modified sun salutation, focusing on gentle strengthening rather than stretching.
Practising it consistently every day changed everything. Within weeks, the pain disappeared, followed by the stiffness and other lingering symptoms.
The biggest lesson was that recovery required the right kind of movement, consistency and patience.
Most importantly, I got my freedom back — the freedom to live normally without the constant nag of pain.
That experience changed how I understand persistent pain and shapes how I work today. I combine hands-on treatment, movement, education and practical strategies to help you find a way forward that works for you.
My Approach
Hands-on treatment
Hands-on treatment can be an effective way of reducing discomfort, easing tension and helping you move more freely.
Movement & mobility
Understanding how you move and what affects your symptoms helps us identify what approaches will be most useful for you.
Strength & self-management
For many people, hands-on treatment is only part of the answer. Building strength and confidence is essential for longer-term progress.
Education
Understanding your pain can change how you respond to it. I’ll help you understand what may be happening and what you can do between appointments.

Education
Understanding your pain can change how you respond to it. I’ll help you understand what may be happening and what you can do between appointments.
I’m a big believer in keeping things practical. If you need exercises or strategies to work on between appointments, I’d rather give you a few things that make sense — things you will actually do. Consistency matters more than complexity.

Tim Young is hands-down one of the best therapeutic massage therapist I have come across. He truly specializes in deep tissue work and pain relief and it shows. Unlike generic massages, Tim takes the time to listen to your specific issues and crafts a treatment that is incredibly effective. He works slowly and thoroughly, finding the exact spots causing chronic tension without rushing the process. The pressure was firm but perfectly adjusted to my comfort level, and I felt immediate release in my neck and lower back that had been tight for months. I left the session feeling not only relaxed but also significantly more mobile. His professionalism, calming demeanor, and practical self-care advice were the icing on the cake. If you are dealing with chronic pain or need serious muscle relief, book an appointment with Tim—you won't regret it! Highly, highly recommended.Posted on Google Courtney KennyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My neck, lower back and hips were so tense and agitated when I went to see Tim. Now the pain has gone, I am sooo relieved. Pressure was perfect! Tim knows exactly what he's doing and is a genuinely nice person. Highly recommend!!!Posted on Google Bob HughesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been treated by Tim for a neck 'injury' three times over about a year. I still have the 'injury' but it is somewhat reduced, however I do not think it is a typical 'injury' and is likely to be an 'emotional' issue and so I am now pursuing a NET/chiropractic approach. This failure to cure my neck is no reflection on Tim who worked persistently and diligently on each visit. I do recommend you give him a try. His understanding of my problem and attempt to resolve it with massage and verbal suggestions was greatly appreciated as was the ambience of his treatment room which was worth the price just to be in there and relax for an hour. Thank you Tim.
